Shannon Murree Group | Barrie Jr Sharks Moves On from Partnership to Support PWHL Toronto Sceptres
Barrie, ON – June 29, 2025 – The Shannon Murree Group is proud to have played a supportive role in the success of the Barrie Jr Sharks, recognized initially as an “elite sponsor.” Through our efforts, we’ve introduced many in our community to the extraordinary talent right here, showcasing athletes who are breaking barriers and raising the bar for what’s possible in women’s sports.
We are proud to have been initially recognized for our vision and outspoken commitment to women’s equity, equality, representation, and initiatives. It was these values that led us to be asked to be part of this organization and to lend our experience, time, and mentorship to support the growth of these athletes. Their success is measured by their athletic performance, as well as by the leadership and positive change they foster in their communities.
Over the course of our partnership, we’ve witnessed these athletes excel not only on the ice but also in their communities—giving back to charitable causes and developing into well-rounded individuals who inspire others. Their commitment to personal and athletic growth has been truly inspiring, and it continues to motivate us.
We are also proud to have brought our connections in other community leaders, media, and our relationships to help elevate and support the work of the coaches, parents, and players. This collective effort has allowed us to amplify their voices and ensure that their hard work and dedication are recognized.
Additionally, alongside our commitment to supporting the Barrie Jr Sharks, we are deeply involved with the Women’s & Children’s Shelter of Barrie as well as The Shoebox Project for Women Simcoe County Chapter, working to empower and uplift women, girls and gender-diverse individuals across the community at risk of homelessness or below the poverty-line. These vital initiatives aligned with our core values of representation, equity, and advocacy for women and girls in all sectors.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey has been seeing the younger generation of athletes look up to these players. The possibilities of what could be, especially in the interactions between the players and the kids, highlight the importance of these young women understanding the significance of their role and leadership. They are not just hockey players—they are role models, shaping the future for many others.
Though our contractual obligation with the Barrie Jr Sharks has concluded, we are excited to focus on the future. The Shannon Murree Group is proud to support the advancement of professional women’s hockey through our involvement with the PWHL and the Toronto Sceptres. This new chapter opens up greater opportunities for women in sports, all while aligning with our broader mission to empower women on a national level, including our work with the Shoebox Project for Women. This shift reflects our ongoing commitment to not only elevating women’s hockey but also expanding our efforts to create lasting, meaningful change for the next generation of female athletes.
