Halloween Is for EveryBODY: How Our Community Can Make a Difference
What if something as simple as moving your Halloween candy to the end of your driveway could make a child’s entire evening?
For many children, Halloween means costumes, excitement, neighbourhood adventures and collecting treats. But for children with disabilities, traditional trick-or-treating can present barriers that prevent them from fully participating.
Stairs, steep driveways, narrow pathways, flashing lights and loud decorations can all make Halloween challenging for children and their families.
The good news? Our community can help change that.
Our Team Proudly Supports Treat Accessibly
Our MovingSimcoe.com Team, with REMAX Hallmark Chay Realty Brokerage, is proud to be an avid supporter of Treat Accessibly, a national initiative dedicated to making Halloween more inclusive for children of all abilities.
Since 2018, REMAX Canada has partnered with Treat Accessibly to help bring accessible trick-or-treating to neighbourhoods across the country.
By 2025, more than 300,000 Canadian homes had displayed Accessible Trick-or-Treating signs.
That’s what community participation can accomplish when people come together around a simple belief: Every child deserves to be included.
As a team deeply connected to Barrie, Innisfil, Oro-Medonte, Orillia and surrounding Simcoe County communities, we’re proud to support this longstanding initiative and encourage more households to participate.
How Can You Help Make Halloween More Accessible?
You don’t need to organize an event or make expensive changes to your home. A few thoughtful adjustments can make a meaningful difference.
1. Make Your Treat Station Accessible
Instead of handing out candy at your front door, consider setting up at the end of your driveway, in your garage or another accessible location. This helps children using wheelchairs, walkers or other mobility devices participate without navigating stairs.
2. Consider Sensory Accessibility
Flashing lights, sudden noises and elaborate Halloween displays can be overwhelming for some children. Consider creating a quieter, welcoming space where everyone can comfortably participate.
3. Keep Pathways Clear
Make sure sidewalks, driveways and treat stations are free from obstacles, decorations and tripping hazards.
4. Display an Accessible Trick-or-Treating Sign
Let families know your home is participating. A visible sign helps parents and caregivers identify accessible treat stations in their neighbourhood.
5. Encourage Your Neighbours to Participate
Share the initiative with friends, family, neighbours and community groups. Imagine the difference if an entire street made Halloween more accessible!

Bringing Accessible Halloween to Simcoe County
We’re especially pleased to see the Severn/Orillia area selected as one of ten Canadian communities participating in the 2026 REMAX Treat Accessibly Halloween Village initiative, hosted locally by Steve Stoutt of REMAX Right Move.
It’s encouraging to see this national movement continue to grow in our region.
Whether you live in Barrie, Innisfil, Oro-Medonte, Orillia or another Simcoe County neighbourhood, you can help make Halloween more inclusive.
Stronger Communities Start With All of Us
For our MovingSimcoe.com Team, supporting community initiatives isn’t simply about putting our name behind a cause. It’s about encouraging meaningful participation and helping create neighbourhoods where everyone feels welcomed and included.
We’re proud to support Treat Accessibly and the longstanding commitment REMAX Canada has demonstrated since 2018.
This Halloween, we’re asking our neighbours, clients, friends and fellow homeowners to do three simple things: make your treat station accessible, display your sign and encourage someone else to participate.
Because building a stronger community isn’t only about the homes we live in. It’s about the people who feel welcome there.
Will you help our team make Halloween accessible for everyBODY?
